Finca Villas: Creative Direction
Project in progress.
Brief:
Creative direction for the development of seven new Spanish-style holiday villas, due for completion in 2024.
Deliverables:
Presentation of creative concept for the architecture and interiors, including furniture and materials selection, for one-, two- and five-bedroom holiday villas.
Outcome:
Located in a thriving neighbourhood for expatriates, who are largely a mix of well-travelled digital nomads and foreign business owners with an international outlook, I aimed to develop an aspirational creative concept that would suit renters and buyers looking to move into the area, and would equally sit comfortably in leading travel, architecture and interiors publications around the world.
Taking inspiration from the client’s Hacienda style references; I presented a modern interpretation of the Spanish home. From colonial haciendas to native Ibizan fincas – the Spanish home comes in a variety of shapes and sizes and each with its own unique characteristics. Although, some core elements remain throughout, including stucco walls, gravel courtyards, external stairways, terracotta tiles, wooden beams, shutters, arches and variations in window size and location - the latter functioning to protect the interior from the glare and heat of the Mediterranean sun.
Taking lead from the Finca style, with its varying cubic modules and flat roof, I felt this approach would provide for a contemporary architectural base that would similarly compliment the site’s local surroundings. And as no Ibizan Finca is ever quite the same as the other, I also put forward designs for each villa size (one-, two-, five-bedroom) to be made unique.
For the interiors, I kept things contemporary with Spanish touches, exploring clean lines and a muted colour palette of whites and creams for the walls, and light grey and terracotta tiled floors. This was then contrasted with pops of Mediterranean-style primary colours, brought-out in signature furniture pieces and Spanish tiles in wet areas.
