Lumi Hotel + Spa:
Interior Design
Project in progress.
Brief:
The Lumi Resort hotel rooms combine a mix of wooden hut structures with Alang Alang roofs, and Brutalist style concrete block rooms. The latter of which are considerably small at just 21sqm, and so the owner has requested to convert eight of the rooms into double suites, and the remainder of the space into a spa and wellness centre.
Deliverables:
Design concept, design development and production management of FF&E, plus other interior materials.
Outcome:
Inspired by the existing brutalist-style architecture, and the redirection of the space to focus more on wellness with the introduction of a Spa; I proposed a more minimalist approach to the interior design that would create a contemporary aesthetic with a sense of calm.
At the same time, I wanted to keep a cohesive design scheme throughout all spaces within the Lumi resort, and so I proposed to add accents of colours, patterns and shapes from the existing Indonesian textiles theme realised throughout the Beachclub.
To attain this balance of aesthetics, I recommended a mix of natural woods and textiles, combined with more brutalist materials, but made as sustainable as possible. This included recycled glass shower doors, recycled aluminium furniture frames, low VOC paints, and Tadelakt plaster floors, which with its high Alkaline PH value also prevents a build-up of bacteria and mildew; creating a healthy environment for body, mind and soul.
